Library Guide to Data

What are Data Resources

Statistics created by organizations or researchers are often used by students to enhance our essays and research papers. However, there are times when aggregate statistics are not available for a particular topic, to reach different levels of geography, or provide greater detail than a particular statistical aggregate will supply. In those situations using the data or microdata that is collected when the survey occurred may be required.

  • Data is useful for conducting analysis for your work
  • Data is the direct result of research conducted from a survey
  • Data is the raw information from which statistics are created - Statistics are derived from data!
  • Machine-readable data files are used in statistical software package like SPSS, SAS, or Excel
