For UOIT Faculty, Staff, and Students
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is the process of requesting materials from other libraries. This service is available free of charge to UOIT students, faculty and staff. Borrowers are responsible, however, for fees imposed by the lending libraries for materials that are returned late, or have been damaged, or lost. If the resource that you require is not available in either print or electronic format within the UOIT Library, you may submit an ILL request through RACER.
UOIT uses the RACER System (Rapid Access to Collections by Electronic Requesting) to search and obtain materials from other academic institutions. If necessary, ILL staff will also perform extensive searches if the material cannot be found via RACER. Most items are received within seven to ten days, but some items, if ordered from the United States or International libraries, may take up to six weeks to arrive.
See How to Use RACER for more information.
NOTE: In all cases you must indicate your preferred Library location to pickup your material as part of submitting your RACER request.
You MUST register first or you will NOT receive notification that your material has arrived! Your User ID is your student or staff number, or if you were issued a separate library card, your library card number. Your PIN is your Library PIN. The Library PIN is randomly generated. It is reviewed with patrons each year when they register for library privileges.
The loan period and conditions of use are determined by the library from which the material is borrowed. Generally, ILL books are due back approximately three weeks from the date of receipt. The due date is indicated on the book band with no renewals. ILL MATERIAL IS SUBJECT TO RECALL AND IF RECALLED BY THE LENDING LIBRARY, MUST BE RETURNED IMMEDIATELY.
Search within UOIT Library first to see if the material is available.
The timely return of borrowed material is essential to keeping UOIT Library in good standing with other institutions so that they will continue to lend material. Failure to return materials by the due date may result in the suspension of borrowing privileges and delay the processing of additional requests. Failure to return a borrowed item may result in replacement charges to the borrower, as determined by the lending library.
Daily Fine on overdue Interlibrary Loan (ILL) material is $1.00 per day, per item.
